My first frustration was that I was inundated with emails from some of these sites that had no value or connection to me. Most were from elementary classrooms. I feel as though I need to delete myself or block emails so that I do not have to constantly delete emails from my inbox.
The next issue was when I was looking for things, other than searching, there was no way to sift through the massive amounts of information. The groups are so large and so diverse that I just could not find a way to timely communicate or receive the information I was looking for.
As an introvert, this whole process seemed too overwhelming and many people appeared too demanding and forceful for me to want to communicate or make connections. I just wanted the information to be useful, but most of it did not appear to be so and the time commitment I put in to find two useful materials did not seem to be the best use of my time.
I wanted this to work and be a great tool, but it did not really work out well. I might be doing it wrong since I am not very tech savvy.

ReplyDeleteI can definitely understand your frustration with the emails being sent. Luckily, I had someone show me how to block those emails/notifications from being received. When we meet again I'll show you how. After blocking you can just go into Google+ if you want to see all the comments.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that your Google+ experience was a frustrating one Kendra. I can show you how to change your settings so you don't get so many emails. I do understand what you're saying about finding it hard to sift through information. I tend to just post something when I am looking for it like resources for a unit, or making classroom connections and wait for people to respond to me and share ideas.
ReplyDeleteI found the same frustrations with Twitter receiving numerous emails. No matter how many times I clicked "stop notifications" I still get emails daily.
ReplyDeleteDid you try joining the "WI DPI English Language Arts PLC?" Of all the communities I joined on Google+ I found the WI PDI Art Educators to be the most beneficial for me.
